SAY GOOD BYE TO GLACIER BAY…..but we still have 5 days in Alaska
Tuesday April 30th, 2019 – Neka Bay, just outside
of Hoonah!
Well Hello all you Faithful Followers of the BLOG!
Lots of news to tell.
Yesterday we left Glacier Bay, but not before the Boat crew convinced
several of the passengers to JUMP in to the bay! The Alaskan version of the Polar Bear
Plunge. Well – not a chance that mom and
dad and I were going to do THAT but of course Jim signed up. We all gathered on the fan-tail of the boat and
cheered on the jumpers.
Then we headed back to Bartlett Cove and the National Park
Headquarters. Along the way we stopped
at Marble Island to look at Sea Lions sunning themselves on the rocks. Jim and Ranger Nicole spotted a dead male sea
lion on the rocks – evidently killed in a battle with another male for
dominance. There were also brown and
black bear spotted along the ride, and MANY Mountain Goats.
Dinner on Monday night was ALL YOU CAN EAT CRAB, which was
fantastic, and even I had seconds.
Dessert was a little fruit tart. At
Bartlett Cove we docked and people could get off to go hiking of they
liked. Mom and dad and Jim and I got off
and walked up to the totem pole that stands next to the park headquarters, and
then down the path to look at the skeleton of Snow the Humpback Whale.
Honestly – when we got back on board I was TIRED and went to
bed early. We left mom and dad sitting
in the lounge drinking cognac.
Today we are anchored in Neka Bay, which is just outside of
Hoonah. We are all signed up for the
morning skiff ride, and then I am going to see if I can get dad into the hot
tub with me….
Wishing you were here!
Karen and the Adventurers…
